An Update On Nolan: On His Time

"Built different." Nolan has told us that again and again throughout his fight with ependymoma, and these past few weeks he's proven it. After a summer of camp, friends, and a dream trip that ended at a Liverpool FC game, Nolan started middle school feeling like himself. Just days later, new symptoms brought him back to CHOP, where scans showed his brain tumor had grown into his brain stem. He has been in the ICU since, and while there have been tearful goodbyes, Nolan isn't ready to leave us yet. We're on his time now, focused on keeping him comfortable and making sure he knows how loved he is.

Meet Nolan

Nolan is currently a fifth grader who loves playing sports, most recently, basketball, soccer, flag football, and kickball - just to name a few.

He has a younger brother named Harry. While they drive each other crazy, they have a great love and bond with one another. Nolan is very outgoing and loves to be social, recess and lunch being his favorite activities at school, especially gaga ball and kickball.

Whatever Nolan is doing, he is thoughtful in his approach with many things in life and always brings great energy and enthusiasm.

We can’t wait for our energetic boy to kick cancer's ass and get back to his old self again!

We're On Nolan's Time

This post has been incredibly difficult to write, but it's a long time coming. You're likely aware that Nolan was admitted to CHOP on September 10 with new symptoms related to tumor growth. We had learned from his MRI scans in late June that his tumors had shrunk, and we were thrilled. Nolan had a relatively typical summer while fighting delayed side effects from his CSI radiation. Mid Summer Check-In

Brotherly Love Hello! We hope you all are enjoying summer, it's hard to believe it's almost over (shhh). We refuse to accept it! Nolan had a rough start to summer, experiencing something called somnolence which can occur following radiation. It mostly involves extreme fatigue. We have done our best to combat it with steriods and as much rest as possible. Nolan, the warrior he is, has been pushing to attend camp and get glimpses of as much of a normal summer as possible.

Life Updates

Life has been quite a whirlwind for Nolan and our family. We began January with the clinical trial which consisted of weekly visits to the CHOP day clinic for chemo IV treatments along with daily doses of various medications. It took some time, but Nolan finally got used to swallowing meds and getting poked weekly for chemo and standard bloodwork. Once we got a rhythm we were hit with news that Nolan had some growth in his spinal tumor. His trial doctor was concerned that

Happy New Year

Hello! We hope you’ve had a nice holiday season and a happy new year. Following Nolan’s successful surgery in early December and continued recovery we head into 2026 filled with lots of hope. Cherry Hill Champions

For the past two years for the CHOP Parkway Run & Walk we have teamed up with two other Cherry Hill families, the Geiger’s and Goldthorps, who have also been affected by childhood cancer and named our team the “Cherry Hill Champions”. This is a club we’d never want to start or be a part of but it’s been wonderful to have each other to lean on. Between our three families we feel we can do great things in terms of fundraising for childhood cancer ! Bea, Charlotte and Nolan are our inspiration !
